Street fighting Between HJ and Communists in Blankenburg in 1938?

These photographs are identified as such, although by 1938, the Communist party was outlawed in Germany. Interesting photographs nonetheless.

Hitlerjugend Pallbearers

Death comes frequently, and often, to the Hitler Youth.  The effects of war are unavoidable.   From the back of the photograph:

Standing Hitler Youth

From my collection, but unrelated to the set below.  Here is a member of the Hitlerjugend in his late teens.

Hitler Youth in "Schwarze" (Black) Uniforms

These photographs are from my personal collection.  They are small, and like other photographs from Germany at that time, are often blurry.  I purchased them as a group.  Thus, I believe they belong to the same Hitlerjugend unit.  One of the photographs had a 1938 date written upon it;  therefore, I believe they all come from this time period.

Some reference materials identify black uniforms as belonging to the Jungvolk, but I understand that the Jungvolk involved boys age 10 to 14, and the HJ members I see in schwarze uniforms are well into their teens.

More Assorted Hitlerjugend Fotos

The first two photographs are commonly seen.  The last two are from private collections.

Color Photograph of Hitler Youth in Graz, Austria (1938)

Notice the white shirts and white socks.  White shirts and socks were a common part of the uniform for HJ in Austria.

Marching HJ illustration

A fairly well-known cover of an official Nazi publication depicting marching HJ.
